- For difficulty waking up early in the morning/grumpiness in the morning/daily and seasonal fluctuations in mood and energy: Allow the student to take important tests later in the day when the student may be able to focus better. Also, breaking the test into two parts and giving those parts of the test at two different times during the day can be beneficial.
- The student has periods of excessive anxiety and sadness/very perfectionistic- Reduce writing by allowing the student to use a computer so the page looks neat. Give the student a fidget toy (a stress ball, a koosh ball, play dough, etc) to fiddle in one hand while they take their test to reduce anxiety.
- If medication causes cognitive dulling and a lack of endurance- Schedule breaks during the test or break the test into two parts. Extra test time may be necessary during adjustment to medication. Also it is a good idea to take out unnecessary information from the test to avoid burnout.
